Overview

The renovation of Freddie Mac’s main cafeteria and kitchen on their campus was a multi-phase project to minimize disruption to the staff and food service / catering operations in the fully occupied building.

The project was strategically split into 3 phases, with the main cafeteria seating area in phase 1, the food service area in phase 2 and the commercial kitchen renovation in phase 3. Throughout the project, Mark Construction worked closely with Freddie Mac to minimize any disruptions even providing temporary food service areas created with a mix of temporary and relocated kitchen equipment. All the phases were completed during the summer months when staff use of the cafeteria was lighter but required all work to be completed each phase to be fully-operational by Labor Day. Mark Construction and the project team worked together to develop a plan to keep the commercial kitchen fully operational for the duration of the phase 1 and phase 2 projects including installing full-height temporary walls and scheduling all work in the operational kitchen to be off-hours. Due to existing known plumbing issues, all of the existing sanitary lines were removed and new sanitary lines were installed. Due to existing leaks to the floor below, the existing epoxy floor was also removed and new epoxy floor was installed. This was a challenging project with many stakeholders but the project team worked together to alleviate concerns and provided a new space that will be enjoyed by thousands of employees for decades to come.
